Sustainability Councilor Marloes Borsboom turned off the gas tap at Martin and Ana Roders on Friday. They themselves made their home on the Ds more sustainable. Van den Boschlaan in Rijswijk and therefore no longer need gas. With this they show that it is also possible to make an existing home natural gas-free.
The house has been extensively renovated. “We use sustainable energy,” says Martin. First of all, the house is thoroughly insulated. “What you don't lose, you don't have to generate,” Ana adds. The frames have triple glazing. The house is heated by a heat pump, which extracts heat from the outside air. The power for this pump is generated by solar collectors on the facade of the house. The house also has a shower water heat recovery unit and window frames with ventilation system. In this way, the Roders family heats the home without any consumption costs. With this they want to be an example for others: “We hope that other people will also be enthusiastic about working on their home in the same way.”
Councilor Borsboom: “The home of the Roders family is a wonderful example of how an existing home can be made more sustainable. As a municipality, we welcome it when residents decide on their own initiative to no longer be connected to the natural gas network. In the Netherlands we have agreed to no longer depend on natural gas to heat our homes by 2050. This means that we will all eventually heat our homes in a different way within a few decades. The Roders family is a forerunner. As a municipality, we therefore wholeheartedly support this initiative!”
